We’re building a directory MVP in WordPress that can evolve into a monetized marketplace (paid tiers / RFQs / bookings/transactions depending on traction). This internship is for someone who wants real product-building work, not just “install a theme and done”.
You’ll help us ship a working system where businesses can be listed, and users can create accounts, claim a listing, and update it (with an approval flow). The goal is a clean base we can monetize and scale.
What you’ll build
A WordPress directory with:
- Listings (Custom Post Type + structured fields)
- Categories + locations (taxonomies)
- Search + filters (keyword, category, location, attributes)
- Listing pages + archive pages (category/location pages)
- Listing submission flow (frontend form + moderation)
- User accounts + roles
- Admin
- Listing owner
- Visitor
- Claim listing flow (core requirement)
- User signs up → requests claim → we approve → user can edit listing details
Why this matters
We’re not building a static directory. We’re building a system with multiple monetization paths, for example:
- Paid listing tiers / sponsored placements
- Lead capture / RFQ requests
- Booking or transaction layer later
- Verified profiles/premium features
- Your work should make these future upgrades easy.
What we care about (quality bar)
- Clean structure (so marketplace features can be added later)
- Good performance basics (fast pages, decent Core Web Vitals)
- SEO-ready directory setup
- clean URLs
- internal linking
- schema if possible (LocalBusiness / Organization / Product/Service where relevant)
Requirements (must-have)
- 1+ year with WordPress
- Comfortable with:
- Custom Post Types, taxonomies, custom fields (ACF or similar)
- Basic PHP edits for themes/templates
- HTML/CSS + some JS
- Can work independently, communicate clearly, and ship usable work weekly
Nice-to-have
- Directory plugins (GeoDirectory, HivePress, Directorist, etc.)
- Search/filter performance (FacetWP, custom queries)
- Programmatic SEO for archive pages (category/location structures)
- WooCommerce familiarity (useful for monetization later)
Internship format
- Remote-friendly
- Flexible schedule, but we expect reliable weekly progress
- Paid or performance-based can be discussed (based on skills + availability)
